West Sussex experiencing weather warnings
For the South East of England the Met Office has issued severe weather warnings. West Sussex is currently being affected by a wet and windy spell of weather. The Met Office would suggest that you plan out your journey to make sure that it is going to be safe with clear roads. Also they think you should check the weather for this week to plan for the worst days also so you can wear appropriate clothing for that day.
The public should be aware that a strong wind could lead to the possibility of travel disruption when making journeys. Heavy rain in localised areas and regions is affecting many areas of the South East of England.
The environment agency didn’t issue a flood warning so don’t worry be careful and plan out your journey the day before to make sure that you have a safe journey.
IAM the road safety charity issued advice to drivers for driving in windy weather and severe gales. There advice on their website is as follows.
o Do you really need to make the journey.
o Think about where you are going is there a route with less exposure to the weather and less risk of fallen trees.
o Allow for delays caused by accidents.
o Slow down you are more vulnerable to side winds at higher speeds.
o Keep plenty of distance between you and the car in front.
o Be ready for the gust of wind when you pass a large vehicle or buildings.
o Give cyclists and motorcyclists more room than usual.
o Keep an eye out for objects being blown into your path.
o Watch what is happening to other vehicles where they are affected will give you a warning.
o Winds can be gusty and not constant. Drive to deal with the gusts.
For more information on driving safely in different weather and more information go on the website http://www.iam.org.uk/
This contains useful information for drivers, cyclists and motorcyclists to help you make your journeys safer. There is also information on the website for young drivers this will give more helpful information for younger drivers.
IAM chief examiner Peter Rodger said: “I have seen a parked car moved by the wind. Don’t underestimate how powerful it is and how it can affect you whilst in the car.”
