These are the designs for my newspaper front cover and second page. My ancillary tasks the billboard and website home page and second page. These are the definite designs that I did so I knew what I was making. I changed the website home page though I didn’t add scrolling text, search button or calendar. Instead I added carousel with images and descriptions. I added the other information on the page although I put it in a different order on the page. I also didn’t add the link buttons instead I was able to link the whole text box using the website maker. I have added the pictures to show you where I put them and what the images looked like on the newspaper.

The main task for the coursework which is shown on the following pages shows the front cover of my newspaper and second page. The ancillary tasks the billboard and website home page and second page. The titles are all the same on each of the pages to link the newspaper, billboard and website together to show readers that they are for the same product. I have used a variety of different techniques to make the newspaper, billboard and website exciting and entice readers to read the newspaper, billboard and website. I also used a variety of different colours to make the newspaper, billboard and website look colourful.

These are all the photographs I used for the newspaper first page and second page. Billboard and website home page and second page. I added images to my newspaper, billboard and website as I wanted to make the newspaper exciting. I cropped some of these images to fit them onto the pages so not all of them are the full images that I included in the newspaper, billboard and website. I like the lighting and quality of all of these images.

On my website I have put my newspaper and billboard so that you can click on the newspaper and billboard to get a bigger version of it so this links the newspaper, billboard and website together. This is so readers know the website and don’t forget the website also so readers know that they all link together.
I have used the same images on each so that readers know that they are linked. As I have used images for each of the articles on the website and newspaper. I have added an image on my billboard.

My aim, like any other company making a newspaper, this was to represent the title of the newspaper, billboard and website so that it is easy to recognise and is identified. I used the same title on all the products I used the same style and size writing, although on some of the products I made the title smaller to fit everything on the page. This linked the newspaper, website and billboard with each other so readers know what they are looking at so that the products can be recognised and identified.

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

I used the Internet to find information for my research on newspapers, this helped me to find out about the different types of newspapers and information about what features each of these types of newspapers has. To research into specific newspapers for the different types of newspapers and for the local newspapers, this helped me to find specific newspapers and to see what they look like to help me when making my newspaper. To research for more information on newspapers how they were made and other information.

Microsoft PowerPoint to place screen shots, I was able to crop, then add slides and save the screenshots as pictures to place on my Blog this was useful. I used a camera to record my focus group videos that I did so that I could show my focus group answering extra questions. This was useful as I could watch the video over to find information that was useful to improving my newspaper, billboard and website. Serif Movie plus to edit the focus group videos that I had made to crop the beginning and end and to add a beginning slide describing what the video is showing. This was useful as it allowed me to make the videos better.

Serif Page Plus to create my newspaper, this allowed me to create a big enough page to add a title, text boxes, writing, images and add colours to the text boxes. This allowed me to create a newspaper that looked professional. A scanner to scan in my designs for my newspaper, billboard and website and to scan in front cover and second pages of newspapers, this allowed me to get good quality images of newspapers and allowed me to draw out the designs and get a good quality image of this as well. Photoshop Elements allowed me to edit the photographs that I had taken and to stitch together part of the photocopy of the newspapers, so that I can get the whole of the newspapers and so that I can write about all of the features on the newspaper.

Printer I used a printer to print out some of my work to see what it looked like to make sure that the layout, text boxes and colours that I have used are what I wanted so that it looks professional. This helped me to make sure that the work that I had completed was to the correct layout. Adobe Readers this allows me to save the image as a JPEG this was so that I could put my newspaper, billboard and website onto my Blog. This helped me as I got a good quality image of the newspaper, billboard and website. Microsoft Excel so that I could make the bar charts to show the results from the questionnaires, so that this was a visual image instead of writing, this was an easier way to view the results from the questionnaires that I had asked my focus group to fill in. Apple Mac computer to edit my focus group videos. So that I could cut the end of where I have stopped the recording and so that I could put a beginning slide to introduce what the video is showing.

Camera to take the images for my newspaper, billboard and website this allowed me to add something interesting to the newspaper, billboard and website so viewers were tempted to buy the newspaper. Microsoft PowerPoint to make my PowerPoint. This allowed me to write about what I had done in the work. I used the slide share website for examples of evaluations to get ideas for my own slide show. Wix I used this website maker online to make my website as the original website wouldn’t go on my blog so I made a new one using this website maker. This enabled me to make a better website although some of the features I had added to the other website I wasn’t able to do on the Wix website. I started my project by setting up a Google Email account. This enabled me to set up my own Blog on “Blogger”. From here I would go on to upload everything I did and update all my progress throughout the entire project. So then anybody could track my project via the Internet at any moment they wanted. “Blogger” allowed me to upload pictures and videos along with text. Which was a lot easier than a paper log as it never got lost, and it was easier for other people to view and access whenever they wanted to do so.

What have I learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

The computers at school are slow and took a while for the computer to load which was inconvenient as I had to wait a while for the computer to load and couldn’t do my work. Some of the computers did not have the program that I wanted, so I couldn’t do the work, as I needed that program to do the work I needed to do which wasted time. It took a while sometimes to load up the document to carry on with the work that I wanted to do which wastes time and takes a while. Also I found it difficult finding all the different things on the program that I wanted to use to do the work like text boxes.

I found at home it kept coming up the same messages when I loaded up the program which is annoying and wastes time reading them and sorting out the problem. It also took a while loading up the program because it kept crashing my computer and took several days to sort out the problem this was annoying and wasted a lot of time sorting out the problem, instead I could of been doing the work if it hadn’t kept crashing my computer. Also it took a while for me to be able to print my work off as my printer doesn’t print very well at home so I did it at school, but I had to choose the right moment to do it and this was difficult and took a lot of time which was annoying when I could of been doing the work. The Internet as they don’t save all the websites that you have used on all dates it is only some of the dates so this was annoying.

Also it took a while to edit all the pictures as the program was so slow because of the program that I was using, so this took a while when I could of been doing the main work. It also took a while to find where everything was on Blogger as we had to use this to put all our work on and I find it difficult learning how to add my work. I also found it difficult as you had to put it to the right size to not block the images, menu and writing I had on the side of my blog. I also had to redo my website as it wouldn’t go on my blog and this took a while to learn how to add everything using the features on there. It also took a while to load up as well.

Overall I feel pleased with the outcome of the newspaper. I was pleased with the newspaper because – It was convincing as a real newspaper. My audience liked the newspaper. My audience would buy the newspaper. I liked the way the pictures looked on the newspaper and my audience like the images as well on the newspaper. I was also pleased with the newspaper as I learnt a lot about creating newspapers and I learnt about the structure of newspapers. I liked the fact that my audience liked the billboard that I had created. My audience liked the website that I had created as they felt it had most of the content that the newspaper would have had but in more detail. As well as links to websites they felt was useful. My audience also liked the offers I offered with the newspaper.

What kind of media institution might distribute my media product and why.

To advertise my new newspaper I would have an online version of the newspaper. I have placed the two pages I have done of my newspaper on my website. I would put it in shops WHSmith, Sussex Stationers I would also sell it in all grocery stores e.g. Waitrose. I would advertise it online as being able to subscribe to the newspaper. Advertise it on the television on teenage channels. I would advertise online on You Tube. I would advertise it online on some websites teenage websites. I would also advertise it by having a digital version of the newspaper encouraging teenagers to look at it online and want to buy it in store to find out about local news and other information. Johnston Press would be the publishing company as I feel that they publish many reputable local newspapers and would help me to make my newspaper to the best quality so that teenagers want to buy the newspaper.
